Cupboards & Workspace

A wall of storage, hidden away

I specified deep, floor-to-ceiling cupboards in the dining room to maximise storage for my home office. Jonathan made these bespoke to fit the space and even asked me to sketch out what stuff I wanted to store where.

In keeping with his Zero Waste concept, Jonathan also designed the shelf depths and door widths to make the most of stock sizes of materials. We let the available sheet sizes influence the design to keep costs down and cut waste.

The results were superb. There’s a clever cupboard for storing the ironing board and cleaning products. And there are a couple of hidden worktops. One worktop is home to my office essentials, so it’s easy to use the printers and scanner any time wirelessly from my laptop. The other worktop is home to my passion for crafting. And then there’s a vast amount of flexible shelving for the products that I test as a technology journalist.

Jon also made a bespoke double cupboard above the fridge and freezer, making excellent use of the space and helping integrate the appliances into the room.

The cupboard doors are spray-coated with a hardwearing polyurethane matt lacquer, with push-to-open catches and magnetic closures. The shelves are MFC (melamine faced composite) by Egger, matching the innards of the kitchen cabinets. The worktops inside are walnut with high-grade paper pinboard at the back, perfect for my to-do lists.
