The odds and ends that trick the kitchen out

Jonathan took charge of the kitchen, but it’s still worth crediting the good buys he chose:

Sink: The Häfele Ashton is huge and good value but measure up: you might want something smaller. I like it. If I have too many dirty dishes, I can hide them out of sight in the sink.

Taps The Häfele Rangemaster Aquatrend again proved the most affordable of the bunch and looked good with the sink.

Waste I wanted to segregate recycling and compost but I didn’t want to devote a whole kitchen cabinet to it, because I don’t have heaps of cupboard space. The compromise was to fit a drawer under the kitchen sink that fits a set of bins just short enough to fit under the massive sink.

Magic corner Making full use of the potential storage space in a corner unit is always tricky. We opted for a magic corner from Vauth-Sagel. It’s sturdy and you can whip all four baskets out to get to the contents properly.

Strip lighting I don’t like kitchens to look to clinical so Jonathan designed a shelf to sit on top of the splashback. As a nice touch, he added LED strip lighting, fitted neatly into a groove routed into the underside.
