I couldn’t do any of this without Mick. Mick the Brick. Mick the Diamond. My friends think I’m good at doing up houses but actually I’m just really good at figuring out a plan and Mick’s the clever one who knows how to do the things that I dream up.
I’ve known and worked with Mick for 20 years now. We work brilliantly together and understand how each other thinks. We have a laugh. We put up with each other’s bad moods. We’re like an old married couple sometimes.
He had far fewer grumpy days than me on the build. The kids would rush to go see Mr Mick before and after school. And he even found time to make catapults and a target – my son played out on the rubble for hours like a London kid in the Blitz.
Mick’s busy enough, he’s not looking for more work. No, sorry, you can’t have his number. I just wanted you to know that he’s the guy that made this all happen.
