Raising the Roof

I chose affordable, long-lasting rubber roofing

Roofing was one place where I cut costs a bit. Zinc would have been great but it’s pricey. But I was worried that torch-on felt might not last long enough.

I investigated mid-priced options like fibreglass and rubber. It’s a simple roof, after all. And in the end, I chose EPDM rubber from Rubber4Roofs fitted by a local installer.

It was quick to install, it’s pretty green and comes with a 20-year guarantee. They glued the rubber on the plywood roof deck, lapping it over the upstands for the roof lights before the glass was fitted, with special patches covering the joins for a neat, waterproof finish.
